Grow-Restore-Serve - 250th Anniversary Campaign
Georgetown Lutheran Church
Georgetown Lutheran Church is having a BIG anniversary - 250 years of growing, serving, and sharing God's love from this corner of Georgetown. Our community is more than just our members, and we can't do this alone. We've set some big goals for this milestone - to raise $250,000 to restore our historic building and renovate focused on welcome AND to complete 250 hours serving our community. Join us by clicking now to share a generous gift in support - every dollar counts!
This is an invitation to join this celebration, and our thanks for being a part of our wider community. How? Perhaps you walk by our building each day, and have seen it evolve over the years. Maybe you take joy in our abundant garden, or have attended events, or helped serve a community meal. Or you may be out of town, but have a family member, friend, or other connection here, an appreciation for someone's life that was changed and the mission that is served here. Some remember when the Washington Free Clinic (and precursor to Whitman-Walker) was in our church’s basement.
Even if we could do this alone, we shouldn’t -- we’re connected, and together we all support the well-being of our community and needs of our city. We all care about historic preservation and beautiful, welcoming places in Georgetown. It’s important to us to be a good neighbor to you, and that’s why we’re reaching out with an invitation, and also to listen to you. Have a service idea? Let us know. See a need in our community not being met? We want to listen.

Our current, fourth church building, built in 1914, is a visible anchor in our community, beloved by neighbors, garden lovers, tourists, and history buffs. Our ambitious goal to raise $250,000 for historic preservation and needed renovations, includes:
- Approximately $100,000 for sanctuary roof repair (now completed) and interior plaster and painting. Our historic English clay tiles and copper flashing were in disrepair, are now replaced, stopping interior leaks.
- Repair of bell tower steps and concrete sidewalks, on our most visible face to the community.
- Removal of old stone bell structure which once housed our historic bell. (A stretch goal beyond this campaign is to restore our late 18th century bell, cast in England and with quite a history)
- Renovation of interior entrance (narthex) including flooring, walls, and possible replacement of interior stained-glass windows.
